14 Individuals Arrested in Plateau for Violating Curfew

Following the outbreak of violence and looting by protestors in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, the state government imposed a 24-hour curfew in Jos and its environs. In response to this, the Plateau State Command has arrested 14 individuals for violating the curfew.

Speaking after the State Security Council meeting in Jos on Monday, State Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina briefed the press on the recent arrests.

Adesina highlighted that the peaceful protests in the state took a violent turn when miscreants began looting public and private properties, leading to the imposition of the curfew by the state government.

“In light of the recent events, it has become necessary for us to enforce the curfew more strictly. We have already taken into custody 14 individuals found violating the curfew, and we will continue to crack down on any offenders,” Adesina stated.

He cautioned residents to abide by the curfew regulations until further notice and warned of legal consequences for non-compliance.

Brigadier General Gakji Shipi (retd.), Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, echoed the call for peace, urging citizens to refrain from violence and cooperate with the authorities.

“The government is deeply committed to maintaining peace in Plateau, and we urge all residents to uphold this shared goal by renouncing violence and fostering harmony in our communities,” Shipi emphasized.

The security meeting, chaired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, underscored the collective effort required to safeguard the state’s tranquility.
