Tragic Road Accident Claims 11 Lives in Abia

On Wednesday night, a devastating road accident occurred at Arungwa Village, opposite Arab Contractors Construction Company on the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Abia State Sector Command.

The incident involved a white Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number SSM 320 ZR, ferrying 19 individuals (eight men and 11 women heading to Enugu). The bus collided with a yellow HOWO commercial truck bearing registration number T2828LA.

A swift response from a collaborative rescue team comprising the FRSC RS 9.31 Aba and RS 9.32 km78 Aba Unit Commands enabled prompt rescue operations within five minutes of notification.

At the time of the crash, 10 people (five men and five women) sustained injuries, while nine individuals (four men and five women) tragically lost their lives on the spot. The wounded were transported to a hospital in Aba, while the deceased were taken to the mortuary.

During a follow-up at the hospital, it was disheartening to learn that one man and one woman succumbed to their injuries that evening, with another victim being referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia.

The recent turn of events reveals a total of 11 casualties (five men and six women) reported dead, with eight individuals (four men and four women) facing injuries as confirmed by official sources.

Initial investigations hint that excessive speed was the primary cause of the collision. Further updates regarding the crash’s circumstances will be shared once the FRSC Crash Investigators conclude their inquiry.
